Acoustic Sealing Systems
The gaps around the edges of doors allow them to be opened and closed easily, and accommodate normal building movement. However, they also allow the leakage of sound, as well as fire, smoke, cold draughts, dust, rain/wind and light.
Sealing the gaps around a door is of prime importance when reducing the amount of sound entering or leaving a room. Wherever noise influences human activity and wherever privacy is required, effective acoustic sealing is essential.
Since 1 July 2003, Approved Document E to the Building Regulations (England & Wales) has given details of specific acoustic performance requirements for doors in “dwelling-houses, flats and rooms for residential purposes”, and also in schools (both classrooms, and music rooms). These cannot be attained without an effective acoustic sealing system.
The Solution
The Lorient solution is to fit an appropriate sealing system which provides a complete and continuous barrier around the door when it is closed. Lorient and Integrity® acoustic seals can provide excellent resistance to airborne sound and
significantly improve the acoustic attenuation of the door assembly (door leaf, frame and seals).
