BBA, CERTIFIRE and IFC Certification, and LANTAC
Independent Quality and Performance Accreditation
All of Lorient's products are backed by extensive test evidence - but in addition to this, Lorient also submits its products for independent performance verification, wherever a suitable scheme exists.
Three independent accreditation schemes exist with particular relevance to smoke seals and fire seals. Their purpose is to set benchmark quality and performance requirements, which go beyond the simple passing of a single smoke or fire test.
British Board of Agrément
BBA approvals provide independent assurance for the designer, specifier and end-user as to the “fitness-for-purpose” of building products. To achieve this accreditation, Lorient acoustic, smoke and fire seals were subjected to a comprehensive appraisal, conducted over a two year period. Rigorous audits of the manufacturer’s procedures are regularly conducted and it is a condition of BBA approval that a complete re-appraisal of the relevant products is carried out at, maximum, 3-year intervals. Lorient seals have successfully completed this review process on each occasion since the original approval was awarded. Lorient remains the only manufacturer of combined acoustic, smoke and fire seals to hold BBA approval on its mainstream range of seals.

CERTIFIRE
CERTIFIRE is independent third party product certification operated by Warrington Certification Limited, and accredited by UKAS. Lorient has held CERTIFIRE certification for many years, and has achieved the more rigorous requirements of the revised schedule for fire and smoke seals, TS35. The company also holds CERTIFIRE certification on its entire range of glazing products; its Batwing® acoustic and smoke seal; and several of its Integrity™ Architectural Seals.

IFC
IFC Certification Ltd is a UKAS approved and internationally recognised provider of third party Certification services. Lorient has been awarded IFC certification in 2008, having met the requirements of the SD13 schedule for Penetration and Linear Gap seals on a number of fireseal and combined smoke and fire seal products.

LANTAC
LANTAC (Local Authority Building National Type Approval Confederation) is the only organisation in the UK which specialises in developing fast track routes through the regulatory procedures for standard buildings, modular buildings or building systems. Many local authorities throughout England and Wales are members of LANTAC.
LANTAC certificates speed up the approval process, ensuring that projects progress more rapidly. LANTAC finds a matched local authority for you, including the single point of contact, and this eliminates the need to repeatedly provide the same information for various projects. This efficiency not only saves time but a great deal of money.
Lorient has successfully gained four certificates against the scheme: three for product approval and one for system approval.
- The product approval verifies individual products and components in respect of compliance of with specified Building Regulations. This covers Lorient’s extensive range of acoustic, smoke and fire seals; and a selection of Lorient’s Fire Resistant Glazing products (System-36, System-321, System-90 PLUS and Flexible Figure 1). A product approval also covers the entire Air Transfer Grille range.
- System approvals are given for systems which use a combination of standard components and construction details to meet specific regulations. Lorient’s Document E packs for acoustic, smoke and fire containment have been awarded a system approval.
