The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order came into effect on 1 October 2006, and from that date fire safety law in England & Wales changed. The law now:
- emphasises preventing fires and reducing risk
- makes it a building owner's responsibility to ensure the safety of everyone who uses the premises, and in the immediate vicinity
- does away with the need for fire certificates
The responsibility now rests with the building's owners for ensuring fire rated doors meet all the relevant requirements and are properly maintained.
